Hey there! I'm Yu, a biologist at Harvard Medical School with a passion for painting.

When did you start creating? Was there a specific moment or inspiration that led you to it?

I studied cell biology and obtained my PhD degree in the Netherlands. During my stay in Europe, I was deeply inspired by the rich art atmosphere there. What emotions, messages, or themes do you hope to convey through your work?

What materials, tools, or techniques do you use, and why did you choose them? 

I use acrylic or oil paint on canvas.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in your creative journey, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge is to spare time for my paint passion. I have a challenging academic full time job, so the time I can assign to painting is limited. However, luckily I love the sense of peace painting brings to me, so painting became my way of relaxation.

Do you remember your first sale? How did it feel?

I posted my paintings in my social media with the intention to record them. One day, a lady reached out to me and said she loved my paintings and wanted to buy one, in the end she bought two at once! I was very excited and encouraged!

Has a customer ever shared a special story or reason for purchasing your work?

A newly married couple bought a big floral painting for their new house!

Is there a particular piece or product that customers seem to love the most? What makes it special?

It seems people love my floral paintings, especially hydrangea!

What are your future plans? What do you hope to achieve through your creative business?

I will continue creating more products, maybe more with science topic!

Are you working on any exciting new projects or collections?

I am making more nature paintings, with the intention to have a local exihibition!
